Peer Leadership Council

OK, Inc. inspires high school youth to become future leaders—change agents in their schools and communities through Peer Leadership Councils. The councils provide a peer-to-peer forum that allows students to raise awareness in their schools and communities of prevalent adolescent risk behaviors—alcohol and drug use, sexual activity, bullying, and dating violence.

The Peer Leadership Council strengthens the student’s ability to identify and seek help when a friend or peer needs intervention as a result of 1.) The friend’s involvement in a risk behavior or 2.) Because the friend is being harmed, possibly by a bully or dating partner.

The Peer Leadership Councils give youth an opportunity to think creatively through multi-media production. The student leaders compose, act in, and produce short films and music to educate their peers. The films feature students overcoming challenges and resisting health-risk behaviors as they develop the confidence and assertiveness necessary to seek help for themselves or a friend in need.
